So spring break's coming up and I have no plans, although most likely I'll be spending it in Boston. Wonder if anyone'll be around?

Spent some time with my cousin lately, which was strange and nice, since I don't usually talk to him.

Last episode of Heroes for a while aired Monday. Next one won't be shown until April 23rd. Getting exciting.

My grandfather's in the hospital. I'm stressed out.

So much and yet so little has happened lately.

For one, my house in North Carolina is no longer mine. We've sold it.

Over winter break, I went home to Boston to meet up with parents, and then the three of us drove down to North Carolina to pack up the house. I found a bunch of old things that I've lost track of. A lot of memories, and some of them... well, there's this one dry-erase board there that me and someone else wrote on a bunch. Apparently we wrote on it with PERMANENT marker. So uh, that was rather annoying-- I couldn't get rid of the writing, and I considered it kind of private. :( Then there were all the photos. Old photos of my birthday parties. One bunch especially where Mara organized a bunch of friends and filled my rooms with pillows, and Amy led me home from Animazement all unsuspecting to be greeted by a huge SURPRISE! from people. And more of the 3 week, 2 foot snow vacation. Just lots of stuff that had gone to the corners of my mind, brought up by these old pictures.

I'm not living in the past or anything, but I do miss it when I see stuff like that. :)

I think school has been school. I get the feeling sometimes I'm avoiding my friends here. I should change that, but I just haven't got the incentive. I'll visit people eventually.

Also, there's this guy... that I really, really like. I met him just a couple weeks before Thanksgiving of last year. Um, I want to say so much about this, but I really don't feel this is the place. So I'll stop here.

As I was cleaning the apartment, I found some old Terry Pratchett quotes I wrote down for some reason. Since I'll undoubtedly throw these out in a few minutes, I thought I should write them down somewhere else...

"You know, Hwel, I reckon responsible behaviour is something to get when you grow older. Like varicose veins."

"Cosmopolitan as they were, the people of Morpork had a breezy, no-nonsense approach tot he non-human races, i.e., hit them over the head with a brick and throw them in the river. This did not apply to trolls, naturally, because it is very difficult to be racially prejudiced against creatures seven feet tall who can bite through walls, at least for very long. But people three feet high were absolutely designed to be discriminated against."

"Not what you'd call actual kicking. More foot nudging, sort of thing."

"Only in our dreams are we free. The rest of the time we need wages."

"What can't speak, can't lie." "And then, I hope, we shall leave him to fight his battles in his own way."

"Quite right. Provided he looks like he's winning."

"Magrat wondered what it was like, spending your whole life doing something you didn't want to do. Like being dead, she considered, only worse, the reason being, you were alive to suffer it."

"It wasn't that they thought it was bad. They didn't think it was anything."

"I want the world the way it is, she thought. I want the past the way it was. The past used to be a lot better than it is now."

"Words were indeed insubstantial. They were as soft as water, but they were also as powerful as water..."

"It takes considerable courage to enter a witch's kitchen in the dark, but probably no more than it takes to wear a purple shirt with velvet sleeves and scalloped edges."

"She'd never mastered the talent for apologising, but she appreciated it in other people."

"He's the one who sells goldfish that tarnish after a day or two."

"He had been in the undemanding service of the kings of Lancre for many years, and it showed. His body was standing to attention. Despite all his efforts his stomach stood at ease."

"In fact no gods anywhere play chess. They haven't got the imagination. Gods prefer simple, vicious games, where you Do Not Achieve Transcendence but Go Straight To Oblivion; a key to the understanding of all religion is that a god's idea of amusement is Snakes and Ladders with greased rungs."

"Witches are not by nature gregarious, at least with other witches, and they certainly don't have leaders. Granny Weatherwax was the most highly-regarded of the leaders they didn't have."

"Like most people--most people, at any rate, below the age of sixty or so--Verence hadn't exercised his mind much about what happened to you when you died. Like most people since the dawn of time, he assumed it all somehow worked out all right in the end. And, like most people since the dawn of time, he was now dead."

"She walked quickly through the darkness with the frank stride of someone who was at least certain that the forest, on this damp and windy night, contained strange and terrible things and she was it."

Laptop has gone kaput.

    <lj:music>...that aquarium song...</lj:music>

So Wednesday night I visited Spence, and watched him play FFXI, and I fiddled with my laptop which was refusing to pick up on the wireless that day. (It worked every other day, made no sense.) And then in the middle of the hassle with that, and IMs and such, it.... froze. My laptop never freezes. It freezes so irregularly that I cannot remember the last time it could have possibly froze. It's been months, years even, since the last time.

Anyways, I turn it off and turn it back on, to have it NOT WANT TO TURN BACK ON. Argh! Ever since then it's been decidedly shutoff even when it's turned on. It'll be all black-screeny or turn on and then crash 5 minutes later. I don't even have enough time to transfer my precious data somewhere else. It keeps crashing when I'm halfway done uploading or zipping something. It's driving me insane. :(

This means I have no internet. And I really really wanted to talk to some people too. I'm using my dad's computer for the time being.

I've called and e-mailed the helpdesk at RPI. Too bad I did this today, Friday, and they aren't open on the weekend. Sunday night my dad comes back from his trip, but I could possibly drive up to RPI after my dad gets home and have the helpdesk look at it on Monday. They also said there was a possibility I could mail it up, but they guy I had to e-mail to get info on how to mail it up hasn't replied, so hmm.

In the meantime, has anyone else (okay, doubt it, but this is me almost talking to myself) noticed that everytime I visit Spence, something semi-bad happens afterwards? Like while I'm there everything's really dandy and fun and such. Afterwards, it's... "ahhh, omg, wth just happened." The first time was AnimeBoston, and AnimeBoston turned out... well... that con was fun, but some other stuff wasn't, and it's all very blurry now. Second times onward was just little things, I guess, where one or two people would get mad at me/us. Last time, however, my poor laptop...

The rest of my days are spent studying or going to the bookstore, really. Boston has great bookstores and streets to wander down. I love public transport. Fun, cool mystery series of a Stephanie Plum main char, by Janet Evanovich. Also read up some more on The Twentieth Wife and The Feast of Roses, by Indu Sundaresan, which is some okay historical fiction of 15th/16th century India. I read up to chapter 175 in Bleach. Bleach is really good. Just the site I was getting them from is giving me problems now (directmanga.com).

Kevin's back to playing WoW. Gah. I'm tempted, but really, I don't know, what's the point...? In other matters, TF is over. Talked to Thano and Griev and Nats and Maew and people. Missing them.

Weather in Boston was 90's about half a week ago. Lately it's been 50's and 60's again. Climbing back up though. I miss cold weather.

I'm heading to China soon, so that should be interesting. It's a program, I guess, on a "know your roots" thing, and they take us to a bunch of places, like a tour, but targeted towards ABCs. I'm looking forward to that.
Yttrium??? You're messing with me, right? That's not a real
element. Really? If you say so. Okay... how about: You are really a
solitary creature, and you're somewhat set in your ways. You work,
consciously or subconsciously, towards the betterment of society, but I
guess you do this by befriending it's strangest elements. You're kind
of a spaceman/woman, but in the end you're allright. You should try to
be with the benign weirdos of the world because, by goodness, no one
else will.
Whee~!

I turn 21 today. Am now 21 years of age!

Yesterday I went to NC, got to hang around with Amy and Erica at Animazement! Was very amusing to watch Erica hide from the anime freaks. <g> Received Sunshine (the book) from Amy! Bumped into random people I knew from high school (Zach and Kristen, and some others that I don't really remember names for).

A bit sad I didn't get to stay longer and see Matt or Mara or anyone else. <ducks> But I think I'll be heading down some other time this summer so I can see them! :)

Today, I get to do some more work for my dad. Oh, and my mom baked this cake for me. Hehe. It's pretty cute. I want to upload some pictures somewhere if I can figure out how to do it... any pointers, anyone?

EDIT: I just checked my mail, and thank you, Claire!

It's a time of departure, at least for the summer. I'm already missing people I haven't seen these last two days. Lotta friends have been leaving, or are leaving now, for home or other parts of the country. I'm going home tomorrow. But for now, it seems very depressing and lonesome.

I do have to pack and write up some things, so I'll be able to keep myself busy, at least. Hmm.

Exams are over, I'm pretty happy with my grades. Still have to study for actuarial exam on the 25th, I believe. Animazement is at the end of the month, and I'd really like to go, but I don't know if I can. It depends on my job, so... we'll see. I'd like to see all you Chapel Hill people again, so I'll try my best. :)

Upstairs had a party last night, blargh. It was loud. Downstairs, the new roommate, Alex, had 2 of his friends over and they played DDR. So good. So scary good. He got AA on heavy on Ethnic.

I've been under siege by allergy season lately. My eyes itch, I sneeze a lot, my nose itches, where are the tissues?!, and I'm thirsty a lot. Hmm, it almost sounds like a cold, but I'm sure it's just allergies.

Ooh. And as soon as all the studying is over. I can buy my books. Hehehe. In no particular order:

August: Cast in Shadow - Michelle Sagara
House War - Michelle West
4th Jaran book (cheap one) - Kate Elliott
Sunshine (wait for paperback, out already) - Robin McKinley
February 4th: Bite - Laurell K. Hamilton
April 12th: A Stroke of Midnight (Meredith Gentry Novel) - Laurell K. Hamilton
Dead as a Doornail (Southern Vampire Mysteries) - Charlaine Harris
Dreams Made Flesh - Anne Bishop
Powers of Detection: Tales of Mystery and Fantasy ("The Price", anthology) - Anne Bishop

Back in Boston for a short time

I'm home from vacation. (I went to Acapulco, Mexico.) The vacation went fine -- much love to walking on the beach, watching the waves, gazing at waves, staring at waves, eating at restaurants with great views and cheap menus, flea markets, and drinking pina colada. Did not enjoy the homework I took along to work on, the heat and humidity, the no-internet-access, nor the mosquito bites. Had some difficulty with American Airlines and my dad's scooter (aka, they lost it for a day). I think we took about 5 pictures, so not much to show that way. Was a shock to go from ~80 degrees to ~30 degrees when we got back to Boston, but I'm enjoying it.

I was a bit sad to come back and see what was going on with friends. Didn't expect a few of the things to occur, felt like I was being hit with a ton of bad news. But on whim, I just IMed someone I hadn't spoken to since going to college, and that was cool. Caught up a bit on news. It's a DR friend, so most of you wouldn't know him anyways. We used to fret about what colleges we'd get into and stuff together. And we had a first aid competition (who could get more FA!) when we both played; he got ahead by quite a bit, and I blame his brother for training his character.

As a sidenote: April, I thought you were going to post pictures!

I'll be back at RPI tonight, since I just can't seem to work at home in Boston. Rather hard to concentrate when there's pretty much just two rooms in the apartment to work in (the bedroom and the living room) and one of my parents occupies each of them to do -their- work.

On vacation, I seem to have missed someone a lot more than I expected to, and that was weird, 'cause I basically told the person to leave me alone a few days before I left, and maybe that was the wrong thing to do, and hmm... I'll think about that part more later.

Anyways, I'm alive, I'm okay.

I'm bored. And I'm stressed. And I'm really only bored because I don't want to do what I'm stressing about doing. Which would be work. So I'm lazy and therefore bored at the moment, but stressed because I know I have to do it.

But I think I signed up for the wrong class. As in, one that I don't need to graduate, and which I'm having trouble with. However, I'm now stuck between a rock and a hard place because I can't drop it anymore and get a new course at the same time. I just... I should stick with it. But I regret now not looking at my schedule more closely, twice, or three times, checking, to see if I really actually needed this course. I can't recall where I got the information that I did, but I had it all compiled in this nice little chart. But that chart is wrong! Gah!

In other news, Valentine's Day was kind of sad for me. I did get a big box of chocolate chip cookies from my parents though, which I gave out to people, and which I've had stolen from me, too, hmm.

Studying in the library in a room is not so bad. But I don't feel like I would get much done either way. It's a nice atmosphere though. But I think I'd get rather depressed by myself there too. Ugh, I don't know. I can see the positives and the negatives.

Yes, I did break down and am now playing DR. But it's not so bad, 'cause I can multi-task and I can log out in an instant, unlike FFXI. And alt-tab. And a number of things that make it easy to play while doing work, and easy to stop playing while doing work. Plus I hadn't realized how much I missed some of my friends there. :) <333 Malz & Als

On even more other news, I believe April's back in the states, and I haven't seen her yet? *pokes April if she's reading this* We have to set up a time to see each other!

In other other news, I joined ballroom dancing. Um, and if you're reading this journal and don't have a LJ account, I think you should get one. >:)

Eerie. The more I research on this subject, the more freaked out I get. I don't know if that's good. I mean... it's an interesting "wow, that hits too close to home" sort of thing. *ponders*

In other news... Als and Malz both asked me to come back to DR. I shan't though. Not for a bit. Probably not for this semester. Too much to do!

Ela IMed me! o.o;; I felt pretty special about that, kinda makes me miss FFXI. We used to talk about the going ons there a lot more, and well, I no longer play.

So things are progressing, change is happening, ahahha, nevermind!

Looked up a few dates. My actuarial exam is March 12... that seems... really soon. Spring break is from March 14-18, and I think I'm going to Mexico somewhere. Final exams will be held May 9-13.

Am starting to get stressed out by schoolwork again. Am also not dealing with stress well.

Have been procrastinating. Watched Alias (tv show, but got off DVD that I borrowed from friend), liked it, decided to not watch it because I was spending too much time on it, have then looked up many many fanfics involving some Alias people, realized that the relationship I'm most interested in for that show would likely never ever happen. Have also been spending a lot more time at friend's dorm. Visit them 3/4ths of the days in a week. Seem to lose the day if I stay home. Have been fooling around with small MUD that isn't very RPGish, but a couple other friends play too; one server of Legend of the Green Dragon. Would not really recommend it. Have decided to go to ballroom dancing lessons every Thursday at 6:00pm (held at Mother's Emporium).

Met a few pretty cool people in some classes. CS1 is very easy. Fundamentals is very time consuming. The others are okay, and not challenging enough. My actuarial exam prep online course is very time consuming. So, um, basically my math courses are taking up a lot of time, and stressing me out, while I don't seem to be giving any thought to my other 3 classes.

Genericon is this weekend. A few of Theo's friends are visiting and staying over. I got to sneak into the con twice and sneak into Sage dining once. Saved myself ~$18. Which I then spent on getting coffee.

Am starting to enjoy some coffee, although not the warm kind. The frozen lattes and frappuchinos. And even if it is 0 degrees out... eh.

Hope some friends are okay. Know I haven't spoken to some people in ages.

Parents want me to visit them in Boston next weekend, so I'll probably stay there for a day or two.

Oh god. So cold out. Forgot how cold cold could be.

It's currently in the negatives. It's even cold indoors (house has bad insulation?), so cold, sweaters and everything, blankets, brrr.

Played WoW a couple times on a friend's account, but only when I'm visiting him and he's off eating dinner. Will not get addicted. *crosses fingers*

Classes seem okay. Writing class seems lotsa fun though! Teacher is so cool.

Thinking of going to Anime Boston come late spring. Or Animazement, or both. Both in May, I believe.

Fanfiction I'm currently in love with (all HP, sorry folks):

Deconstruct: A Memoir
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/993571/1/
WIP. Lily/James. This story is wonderful, absolutely love her writing after the first few (say, 5 or 6) chapters. Can really see the evolution of her writing skills/style as well as her characters. Very much adore this fic. Looking foreward to her updates daily, plus I like her livejournal. :P

The Other Black Girl
http://www.schnoogle.com/authors/smelltastic/OBG01.html
WIP? Andromeda Black. Wow. I could get totally immersed in this world. Not sure when the author will ever update though, but it's not bad the way it is. The relationships and characterization and just the society is really cool and different from the others I've seen like this.

The God of the Lost
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1352741/1/
WIP. Hermione/Draco. Like the story, is well paced, like the writing, all generally good. Wish the author would update more often. Seems like forever.

Divine Humiliation
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1783976/1/
WIP. Hermione/Draco. Hehe, such a cute/funny fic. It's kinda a revenge-ish plot, but funny, and um... yes.

Draco Malfoy the Amazing Bouncing... Rat?
http://www.schnoogle.com/authors/maya/ABR01.html
Hehehehe, probably my favorite funny Hermione/Draco fic there ever was. It's great even if you don't like HG/DM, so read it if you haven't already. :)

I'm alive.

I'm alive, but not very.

1) I have recently come to the decision to quit FFXI. I'm not happy with this decision, but it's the best thing I can do for myself (minus developing enough self-discipline to not play it and think about it and be consumed by it 24/7). So, okay, I have not yet told any of my friends from FFXI about this new development in plans, but I'll get to that eventually (within the next week -- if Sean reads this before then... well, then one person will know).

I'm going to miss every single person I met in that game. I spent so much time playing, planning, thinking about what I'd do there. I'll miss the conversations, the weirdness, the cooperation and teamwork, the kindness and generousity displayed by some, and lessons learned from others.

I will most likely distribute my items among my friends there (even though I looked on IGE and realized I could make somewhere like $300 if I sold everything). Anyways, that's not the point. I want to leave something of myself as a gift to those that made my experience memorable.

I can't stay. I need to get my life back. I need to do well this semester, I -need- to be focused. I need to do things that I haven't been doing. I don't want to just think about FFXI, even if it makes me happy, because that won't get me anywhere. If I can get my addiction in order, then I'll come back, perhaps. But I doubt it. So I'll just bid a farewell until next time.

Please don't ask me to stay. It isn't what I need or want right now. You don't need to understand, just accept. Please.

2) I'm changing majors to mathematics this semester. I believe I've mentioned new career choice of being an actuary. Will hopefully talk more about this in future posts, etc.

3) Oh god, what am I going to do with my time besides study and stuff?! Fanfics? Books? I don't freaking know anyone in my college whom I'm close to! AHHHH! /panicpanicpanicpanic (A few exceptions, I guess I talk to Theo, and have had conversations with others from RPI, but c'mon! I should be doing better than this! I have no interests! Oh god, oh god oh god.) So. Who's going to be in the capitol region of New York this spring semester? Anyone feel like visiting? Anyone I can visit? Eh eh eh? And don't say it if you're in California or Hong Kong or Florida. I have to -drive- there or find some cheap way there! I wish I was some neat-freak who would clean my rom every other hour, then I'd definitely have something to do. Hmm.

4) Well, as I was telling someone the other day. Always gotta improve yourself. Hope I'm doing the right thing. We'll see in a few months.
Well, I've recently contracted -something-. I don't know what yet. Was going to see doctor's today, but no one who could see and diagnost me was there. So they were like "come back tomorrow", but I can't, as my parents are picking me up tonight.

On with my post. I'm going to Boston. Not to really visit, but so they can take care of me, I guess. I'm letting everyone know, in case you cared, or didn't know before. (Most people don't, including my roommates, so letting people know here, if they read here.) It was kind of sudden, as I woke up this morning and couldn't get up, so I called them, and hmm, things kind of spiraled down from there.

Right now (after a long, hot shower, and a long, cool walk outside) I feel like I have this awful head cold (is that right? not quite sure if that's what it feels like)-- I mean, I have this pounding headache, that's actually pounding, and a blurry head and my throat still feels sore, but my voice no longer cracks on every word I say, and my nose is always stuffy and running (it felt better the first 2 minutes of my walk, and then it felt much, much worse). My chest hurts. It's hard to breathe at times. I'm always dehydrated. I hate eating hard stuff. I think I'm addicted to eating these little vegetable vitamin pills. Hmm. It hurts to swallow though. I haven't been eating much either, but that's 'cause I'm not hungry, and also because I don't want to think about putting food down my throat, ow, my throat. Y'know.

Oops, got sidetracked there. So there's my symptoms (oh, plus weird ear stuff, my ears constantly hurt and some kind of strange pressure that makes it make weird popping noises, and I'm always cold, even when I'm sweating, but I don't think I have a fever, although I didn't check). And I'll be gone for a bit

Ugh, so I had this strange dream last night. I thought someone gave me this awesome gift, and I was so happy, because I'd wanted it for so long, but then I forgot my dream when I woke up, until quite a few hours later, when I was looking for the gift, and couldn't find it, and realized it was a dream. Um. Has that ever happened to anyone else? That their dream was so ingrained -- so real -- that it went unquestioned until you looked for... well, whatever it was... and found it wasn't there?

Perhaps one of the most balanced of
all the colors. By balanced, I mean balanced
in both bad and good parts. Let me elaborate:
You're a natural, and somewhat superficial
person. You're extremely generous, but, to add
to the confusion, you're frugal and stingy.
You're a forgiving, but jealous person. You're
imaginative, but still logical. At sometimes,
you're a complete neat-freak, and other times,
you're a total slob. You're very stable, but
undependable. But onto the other traits that
are associated with this color... You're a
stubborn person, simply put. Do you believe in
Feng Shui? Green is closely related to the
thought of having a balanced environment, you
know. When in a bad situation, you're
painfully pessimistic, and when you're in a
good situation, you're extremely optimistic. A
fairly outgoing and amused person, you enjoy
talking to people, and hearing their thoughts
on different things. As a plus, when people
hang around you, it seems like time passes by
all the more quickly.

What color are you?
